Amazon – This River Is My Street / Harmonious Thelonious

Das brasilianisch-japanisch-deutsche Kooperationsprojekt präsentiert den Kurzfilm Flux von Nathalia Favaro und Miki Yui. Menschen, die am Amazonas leben und arbeiten, erzählen vom Zyklus des Lebens. Flux wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Goethe-Institut São Paulo produziert. Der musikalische Teil des Abends gehört Harmonious Thelonious (Stefan Schwander), der ein Konzert geben wird. Seit etwa zwanzig Jahren ist er einer der international anerkanntesten Musiker aus der elektronischen Musikszene Düsseldorfs. In den letzten Jahren hat er sich mit brasilianischen Rhythmen beschäftigt und diese in seine Kompositionen eingewoben.

18 Tage und Nächte lang verwandeln Künstler*innen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen und von allen Kontinenten das Festivalzentrum am Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz in einen öffentlichen Performanceraum: Mit dem Programm im Weltfoyer laden sie ein zu Begegnung, Vortrag, Klangsession, Film, Gespräch. Das Festivalzentrum im Schauspielhaus steht dem Publikum zum Verweilen offen.

Das Programm des Weltfoyers ist eine Referenz auf den Beginn des Futuristisch-Radikalen in der Kunst. Düsseldorf entwickelte sich in den 70er und 80er Jahren zur Keimzelle der elektronischen Musik und genießt seither als kreatives Zentrum dieser Szene international großes Ansehen. Das Weltfoyer bietet die Möglichkeit, vielfältige musikalische, filmische, performative und wissenschaftliche Projekte von Künstler*innen aus NRW und von allen Kontinenten einem breiten Publikum zugänglich zu machen. Theater der Welt schafft so die Gelegenheit, die Nähe der elektronischen Musikszene zu Performance- und Theaterkunst hautnah mitzuerleben.

Mit dem bildenden Künstler und Musiker Stefan Schneider aus Düsseldorf und Chris Bruckmayr, Kurator des Festivals Ars Electronica in Linz, prägen zwei starke Handschriften das Weltfoyer-Programm.

A photographic talk by Rogério Assis on the clearance of the Amazon rain forest in Brazil and the lives of indigenous peoples plus a screening of the short film Flux by Nathalia Favaro and Miki Yui. Followed by a concert by Harmonious Thelonious (Stefan Schwander), who has made a study of Brazilian rhythms.

For 18 days and nights, artists from North Rhine-Westphalia and every continent will turn the festival centre in the Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz into a public performance space: in the Weltfoyer they invite you to come and meet people and enjoy talks, sound sessions, films and discussions. The festival centre in the Schauspielhaus is open to the public at any time.

The Weltfoyer programme pays homage to the beginnings of art’s radical futurist movement. Düsseldorf was where the electronic music scene emerged during the 1970s and 80s and the city has enjoyed international renown as its creative centre ever since. The Weltfoyer offers a chance to make the diverse musical, filmic, performative and academic projects of these artists accessible to a wider audience. Theater der Welt 2021 will create a unique opportunity to experience the affinities between the electronic music scene and the worlds of performance and theatre arts up close.

The Weltfoyer programme will be guided by two strong artistic personalities: visual artist and musician Stefan Schneider from Düssel- dorf and Chris Bruckmayr, Curator of the Ars Electronica festival in Linz.
